My Journey As A Musician

I'm so excited about launching my website and having a playground to share my content! I’m also excited to start this blog. In it, I will share bits of my journey as both a musician and a human being. Thanks for stopping by.

Let me share a little about my journey as a musician. I’ve always heard music in my head. I’m a Gemini which is an air sign. Let’s just say I had an airhead that was filled with music. I've also been known to jump from one topic to the next too, which you will see as I write this blog lol. This is going way back, but I remember getting scolded in kindergarten for always lagging behind the line.  I always had thoughts and music going through my mind and none of them had to do with that lunch line 😆 I would always leave something behind everywhere I went and it was hard to concentrate in class. A lot of times they weren’t even my thoughts or feelings but I wouldn’t have that realization of being empathic till much, much later in life. The one thing that saved me was that I was good at being hyper-focused when playing music. Music soothed my monkey mind. I remember laying in the grass in our backyard listening to my sister’s and brother’s tapes and albums. They were teens in the 60s and 70s so I had access to a lot of great music! More about the music in another blog.  My father would listen to the big bands in the car when we would drive somewhere. He would snap and whistle. I have fond memories of my father and music. Whenever I would sit down to practice, he would come into the living room and sit down to listen. My mother was an amazing classical pianist as was her mother. I was destined to be a classical pianist as well.

As I said before, my brother and sister were older and both were musical. My sister played the clarinet and my brother played the trumpet and they both took piano lessons from the top teacher around.  At age 6 I began lessons with him. I studied with him from age 6 until age 18 and then continued on in college for another 4 years majoring in both jazz and classical piano performance. I actually had to create my own major and have the music department sign off on it. I made saxophone my minor. When I was in 5th grade and able to play in the school band I chose the alto saxophone. It was a great instrument for the times. It is such an expressive instrument and one of my greatest loves.   More about that later…
